Overview

The Covenant Foundation invites applications for innovative programs in Jewish schools, community organizations, and other institutional settings. These grants will provide funding to help creative Jewish educators develop and implement significant and financially responsible approaches to Jewish education that are potentially adaptable in other settings. Covenant Grants may also be awarded for projects whose purpose is to disseminate particularly effective existing programs.

Eligibility

• Eligible applicants include any tax-exempt, non-profit organization involved in Jewish education in North America.
• Not eligible: feasibility studies, capital projects, scholarships, basic research, or ongoing operating support.
• Organizations may only submit one grant application per cycle.

Grant Types

Signature Grants

Up to $225,000 (no more than $75,000/year for up to three years)
For well-developed, scalable programs

Ignition Grants

Up to $35,000 for one year
For new, early-stage ideas or pilot projects

There is no minimum dollar amount associated with a Covenant Grant.

Overview

The Pomegranate Prize celebrates emerging leaders in Jewish education who are creative, reflective, and community-oriented. Each year, five recipients are selected for a one-year experience that includes.

• $15,000 to invest in professional development.
• Coaching and networking with fellow educators and the Covenant Foundation.
• Recognition at two events in New York City.

Applicants may apply to only one category per year.

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must:

• Have 10 years or less of paid, post-college experience in Jewish education.
• Work primarily as Jewish educators (not administrators or faculty).
• Be based in North America.
• Work in diverse Jewish educational settings (day schools, camps, synagogues, etc.).

BIPOC and LGBTQ2IA+ educators are especially encouraged to apply.

What You’ll Submit

• Four short essays (400 words max. each)
• Two letters of recommendation
• Résumé (.doc, .docx, or .pdf)
• Short bio (200 words max.)

What is the opportunity?

The Covenant Foundation’s Jewish Family Education Fellowship honors an outstanding Jewish family education professional, giving them the time, space, and kavod required to nurture and grow bold ideas that enrich the field.

The fellow will receive:

• A $50,000 Fellowship Grant
• Support from The Covenant Foundation’s team to inform and enrich your work
• Access to a broad network of outstanding leaders in Jewish education
• A platform for publishing

Who should apply?

Educators working in any nonprofit, academic, or Jewish education setting in North America are eligible to apply, including those running their own organizations.

Applicants must:

• Have significant, demonstrated experience and expertise in Jewish family education as a practice and/or a field of study
• Bring an innovative, entrepreneurial spirit to their work
• Approach their efforts with generosity of spirit, and the ability to be both self-directed and collaborative
• Have strong writing skills

A graduate degree is preferred but not required. The goals and expectations of the fellowship are best met in combination with a sabbatical year or part-time/freelance employment, not with a full-time position. The chosen fellow should expect to spend approximately 20 hours/week on related activities, as well as participate in 2-3 Covenant events throughout the year. Your schedule will be self-directed.
