Our New, Dynamic Web Site
Welcome to The Covenant Foundation’s redesigned web page, a beta test site of a newly enhanced online resource for our community.
True to our mission, our new site has many new features and tools to help showcase and share unique ideas and programmatic excellence, and encourage adaptation and replication of the best practices we can identify. We want to use this new site to highlight the fascinating work of dozens of our grantees and awardees, and the groundbreaking, innovative work taking place - often right in your own communities.
A new monthly feature, Grants in Action, will showcase your work in depth, and you’ll be able to share your special initiatives with colleagues and friends in a section called Community Events. Just send them to us at glenn@covenantfn.org
And, the Covenant News section will keep you current on the Foundation’s continuing work. This month, for example, we’re reviewing new letters of inquiry for 2009 Covenant Ignition and Signature Grants. And as many of you know, the Foundation recently hosted a three-day retreat for grantee project directors, who gathered to share collective wisdom and best practices.
In thinking about content for the new site, first considerations were: "Who will see this? Who is in The Covenant Foundation network? What sort of information will be most useful to such a diverse audience?"
You are educators; many of you are in uncommon arenas, spread across the country and with a broad range of interests both inside and outside the Jewish community. Some of you are involved with “mainstream” educational organizations, while others are professionals in fields including art, dance, music, and community groups, looking for ways to contribute to and strengthen Jewish life, community and education.
For the Foundation’s web site or ‘network’ to reflect our diversity and the best of what we do – supporting innovation and excellence in Jewish education — we need to communicate with one another. We must ask the difficult questions of one another, learn to emulate best practices, and adapt to our rapidly changing world.
In the coming months, please send us your questions and opinions on issues of interest so we can begin this online conversation and harness the power of this site as we share views and ideas across the community right here.
What would you like to discuss? Who would you like to hear from? And, what online resources would be helpful to you? Please complete the questionnaire and send us your thoughts.
The entire Covenant Staff is excited about the debut of our new content and design and with your input, developing it further to meet our collective interests and needs. Be sure to write to us about great resources, interesting links, and trends in your community.
Best,
Harlene Winnick Appelman

Teaching Safety, Safely
It’s not easy for parents and teachers to talk to young children - in a non-threatening way - about the risks out there. But they are real, and so is the need for vigilance.[More]
