Building on the Strengths...

As you will see as you read about the 1991 Covenant Award winners, knowledge, dedication, and enthusiasm for educating our young and not so young in the marvelous heritage of Judaism are thriving in North America. In developing this program, we had heard tremendous criticism and encountered great pessimism about Jewish education. Instead of joining the chorus, we decided to take a different approach. We set out to build upon unique islands of talent, and we discovered pillars of strength in large and small communities, in every denomination, and across every conceivable educational setting.

The individuals presented here, and many other wonderful Jewish educators whose work is deeply appreciated by the families and communities they touch, are the most precious resource of the Jewish people. They are the bridge between our past and our future. We honor and thank them for their extraordinary contributions.

The best part of our work is recognizing these outstanding people. We look forward to making many more awards because we know that there are many more people who genuinely deserve them.

B'Shalom,

Susan Crown
