Past Recipients: 1994

Building on the Strengths...

It is with great pride that we present the winners of the 1994 Covenant Awards. Though each of them has a unique record of personal achievement, they share many of the strengths that distinguish them as representatives of the best in Jewish education. Their zeal has reached beyond their students to communities at large, building bridges between our past and our future. As teachers, organizers, and administrators, they affirm not just the ongoing vitality of Jewish learning; they testify to the rich tapestry of North American Jewish life in all its forms. While the presentation of these Awards gives us ·the opportunity to honor three special people, we hope that it will offer an occasion to encourage others in their footsteps.

This is the fourth year we have celebrated Jewish education through the Covenant Awards. After reading about this year's winners, you will find descriptions of the previous Covenant Award recipients. Each year, as we add to the list of winners, we add their names to this booklet as a record of excellence in Jewish education.

We salute the Covenant Award winners, past, present, and future.

L'Shalom,

Susan Crown

What are these?

Our Jewish tradition puts significance on this 18th anniversary, as it corresponds to the Hebrew word for life, ‘chai.’ And so we are gathered to celebrate that Tree of Life that we planted 18 years ago and to marvel at all the wonderful fruit that it has borne.” — Eli Evans, chairman of the board of directors, The Covenant Foundation
